In this video, Dr. Dee explains IT band syndrome and how it can contribute to pain along the outside of the hip, thigh, or knee. He describes how the iliotibial band runs from the pelvis toward the lower leg and can become irritated from overuse, running, long walks, pelvic imbalance, or tight surrounding muscles.
The video reviews simple at-home strategies including icing irritated areas, stretching the outside of the hip, using a figure-four glute and piriformis stretch, and gently rolling the side of the leg with a foam roller or hand roller. Use controlled pressure and avoid heating inflamed areas. If lateral hip or leg pain keeps returning, the First Choice Chiropractic team can check whether pelvic mechanics or joint restriction are contributing.
